In mobile field service, the phone is the product, not the dashboard
Mobile field service is where the data is created and where most of it is lost. One-handed operation, a form that works offline and syncs later, photographs attached to the job automatically, and a signature that does not need a second app. A product whose phone experience is a cut-down web page will be worked around within a fortnight.
Digital field service management means the record is the source
The value is not that the forms are electronic, it is that the order, the history, the parts, the photographs and the signature are one record the office and the van both read. Digitising the forms and keeping the truth in a spreadsheet beside them is the common half-implementation, and it costs more than paper did.
Judge the field management application on the week, not the demo
A demo shows a clean job from booked to paid. A week shows the reassignment, the second visit for a part, the customer who was not home, the change agreed on site and the invoice queried nine days later. Ask to see each of those, because they are what the office actually spends its time on.

What is the difference between field service management and job management? Mostly vocabulary and scale. Field service usually implies dispatching visits to customer sites with technicians in vehicles; job management is the broader term and covers trades whose work is booked rather than dispatched. The products overlap heavily.
How much does field service software cost? It is priced per user per month across the category, which means the real question is how many people need a licence: technicians, office, owner. A product that forces a full licence on a part-time bookkeeper costs more than its headline.
