Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs entered, by the method stated below it. Jobcardo publishes no tax rate, no wage figure and no trade standard: the rate, the markup and the tax on the parts line are yours, and the defaults are a worked example to replace with your own figures.
Field work order software is for the business whose work happens at the customer's site rather than in a shop: a technician drives out, does the job, and the order has to be raised, priced and closed from where the work is. What it has to do is price the field call from the business's own figures, including the travel that a shop job does not have, keep the order against the customer with a status, and let the office see what the technician saw. The service work order worksheet on this site prices the call with its callout fee, mileage, labour and parts; the work order template prices a longer job; Jobcardo Pro keeps both against the customer.

Price the call, travel included
A field order has lines a shop order does not: the callout or diagnostic fee and the travel. The service order worksheet takes both, with the labour hours, the rate, the parts and the markup, and returns the total and the revenue per hour on site, so a call that does not pay for its drive shows itself.
Raise it from the site, keep it against the customer
The technician prices the order on a phone and, in Pro, saves it to the customer with a status and a date. The office sees the same order the moment it is saved, and the customer's next call is answered from the record.
Close it and invoice from the same figures
Done on site becomes invoiced in the office without re-typing: the callout, the travel, the labour, the parts and the tax are the invoice's lines. Jobcardo keeps the order and exports it; your invoicing tool sends the bill.
Field work order software: common questions
Is this field service management software?
It is the order part of it. Field service suites add dispatch boards, route planning, GPS, estimating, invoicing and payments, priced per user. Jobcardo prices and keeps the field work order and the service order and deliberately stops there; if you need the schedule and the routing, buy the suite.
My trade has its own software category. Should I be here?
If your trade is HVAC, plumbing, electrical or handyman work, this estate has a hub built for it with the trade's own rates and forms, and that hub is the better fit. Jobcardo is for the field business whose trade has no such hub: equipment service, property services, IT and general repair.
Can I charge a flat trip fee instead of mileage?
Yes. On the service order worksheet, set the mileage rate to zero and put the flat trip charge in the callout line, or on the work order template use the travel line, which is a flat charge. Both sheets show the travel as its own figure so the customer sees what it is.
