A status on every order
Raised, in progress, done, invoiced and paid, closed. Every work order carries one of them, and the list can be read by status, so the orders that are done and not invoiced, which is where the money leaks, are one glance away.
A dated history on every change
Each move of status, each added part and each changed figure is kept with a date and the person who made it. Tracking that shows only the current status loses the thing you need when a customer asks when the job was finished.
The price tracked with the work
The order's total, its deposit and its balance sit on the same record as its status, so tracking the work also tracks the money owed. A job list without the price and a spreadsheet without the status are the two halves this replaces.

Can the customer see the status of their work order?
Not through a customer portal today. The office can read the status from the record and tell the customer, and the order can be printed or saved as PDF with your own name on it. A customer-facing status page is a request we hear; tell us if it is yours.
Does it track time on the job?
It tracks the hours you enter on the order, priced at your rate, and dates every change to the order. It is not a timer or a timesheet; the labour figure is the one you write on the sheet, which is how a job card has always worked.
