Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs entered, by the method stated below it. Jobcardo publishes no tax rate, no wage figure and no trade standard: the rate, the markup and the tax on the parts line are yours, and the defaults are a worked example to replace with your own figures.

Service order software prices and keeps the call-out: the order a repair or maintenance business raises when a customer rings with a fault, with lines a shop job does not have. A callout or diagnostic fee, travel by the mile or as a flat charge, labour on site at the business's rate, and parts at cost with a markup, into a total and, the figure most call-out businesses never see, the revenue for each hour the technician was on site. What service order software has to do is work that from the business's own figures, on a phone at the site, and keep the order against the customer with a status. The service work order worksheet on this site does the pricing free; Jobcardo Pro keeps the order.

Price the call from the site

Callout fee, miles and the rate per mile, hours on site and the labour rate, parts at cost, the markup and the tax rate on parts go in on the technician's phone; the travel, the labour, the marked-up parts, the tax and the total come out on the same screen.

Read the revenue per hour before you agree the next one

The worksheet divides the total by the hours on site. A call that pays $208 an hour is a good call; one that pays $60 because the drive was long and the callout fee was waived shows itself on the sheet, which is where a pricing decision should be made.

Keep it against the customer, with its status

In Pro the service order sits against the customer with a status and a history like any other order, so the second visit to the same site opens with the first visit's parts, hours and price already on the record.

Service order software: common questions

What is a service order?

A work order for a call-out: the order a repair or maintenance business raises when it is sent to a customer's site to fix or service something, priced with a callout fee and travel on top of the labour and parts. Some trades call it the service ticket or the job card; the worksheet prices it whatever it is called.

Does it handle a maintenance contract or a recurring visit?

Each visit is its own service order against the customer, so a recurring visit is a series of orders on one customer's record with the history between them. Preventive schedules over an asset register are a CMMS job, and this estate serves that from its maintenance hub rather than from here.

Can I tax labour as well as parts?

The worksheet taxes the parts line and leaves labour untaxed, which is the common case; whether labour is taxable in your state is a question for your accountant. If it is, put the labour figure through the same rate on your invoice; the sheet shows the labour as its own line so the figure is to hand.
