Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs entered, by the method stated below it. Jobcardo publishes no tax rate, no wage figure and no trade standard: the rate, the markup and the tax on the parts line are yours, and the defaults are a worked example to replace with your own figures.
A toolbox talk is a short briefing on one subject, given where the work is happening, usually at the start of a shift or before a particular task. Its value is entirely in being short, specific and current: one hazard, what we are doing about it today, and any questions. A toolbox talk template is therefore mostly a register with a prompt at the top, and the register is the half that gets forgotten and the half that matters when somebody asks what the crew was told.

One subject, five minutes, said where the work is
Pick the hazard that is live this week: the new scaffold, the deliveries crossing the footpath, the cut-off saw indoors. A talk that covers four subjects covers none, and a talk given in a portacabin about work happening forty metres away is a meeting rather than a briefing.
Use the template for the prompt, not for the words
The sheet holds the subject, three or four points to make, the date, the site, who gave the talk and space for questions raised. Reading a printed script aloud is how toolbox talks got their reputation. The points are prompts for a conversation about today.
Keep the register against the job
Names, signatures or a recorded list, the date and the subject, attached to the job record rather than to a folder. This is the part that turns a good habit into evidence, and it takes the same thirty seconds either way.
Toolbox talk template: common questions
How often should toolbox talks happen? Often enough to stay current with what the site is doing, which on an active job usually means weekly with extra talks whenever the work or the hazards change. A fixed schedule with no connection to the work produces attendance and no attention.
Do toolbox talks replace a risk assessment? No. The assessment is the analysis and the method statement is the plan; the talk is how the relevant parts reach the people doing the work that day. They are complementary, and a talk that contradicts the method statement is a sign the method is out of date.
Who should give the talk? Whoever is running the work and knows it, which is usually the supervisor or the working foreman. A talk given by somebody who has not seen the task loses credibility in the first minute.
