Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs entered, by the method stated below it. Jobcardo publishes no tax rate, no wage figure and no trade standard: the rate, the markup and the tax on the parts line are yours, and the defaults are a worked example to replace with your own figures.
A handyman work order has a problem no other trade quite shares: the visit is several unrelated small jobs, added to while you are there, and the customer remembers the first price they heard. The order has to hold a list rather than a task, price each item or the time honestly, and capture the things added on the day, because the additions are where a profitable visit quietly becomes a break-even one.

Write the list before the work, not after
Each item on its own line with an estimate of the time. The customer sees what they are buying and you have something to point at when a fourth item appears. A work order that says general repairs is a work order that will be queried.
Price the additions when they are asked for
The additions are the margin. Say what the extra will take and get a yes before doing it, then add it to the same order with a note. Doing it silently and adding it to the invoice is the fastest way to a dispute over a small amount of money.
Record parts as they are used
Small parts on a handyman visit are numerous and individually trivial, which is exactly why they go unrecorded and unbilled. Capturing them on the order at the moment they come off the van is the only method that survives a busy day.
Handyman work order: common questions
Should a handyman charge by the hour or by the job? By the hour with a minimum for mixed small work, and by the job where the task is predictable. Mixed visits priced per job require an estimate per item, which is more work than the job itself.
How should a minimum callout be presented? On the order and on the booking, in words: the first hour or part hour is charged at the full rate. Customers accept it when they hear it at booking and resent it when they meet it on the invoice.
What about materials the customer supplies? Note them on the order and exclude them from any warranty you offer on the work. It is a single line and it settles the argument that follows a customer-supplied fitting failing.
